Who Are You Guys?

We are a start-up organization with a focus on simple, sustainable and spatially enabled technology solutions. We are driven by our client's goals and our vision to implement the most appropriate technolgy to meet our client's business problems. We have a passion for what we do, we are committed. We experiment. We try new things, we innovate and we have fun. We are not afraid to apply emerging techniques or approaches to traditional problems.

SpatialDev seems to be tackling some of the world's most difficult problems. Are you an NGO?

We looked closely at the different ways of operating a company. In the end we decided that operating as a for-profit entity would allow us to remain nimble, and true to our mission without compromising our values. We work with lots of NGOs and think NGOs are great. But we wanted a buisness model that allowed us to more easily meet our client's goals whether the ultimate end user is a farmer in Africa or a CEO in the United States.

So does SpatialDev develop shrink wrapped software or what?

Currently SpatialDev does not develop any shrink wrapped software nor do we have plans to. We have several solutions worth setting up as software as a service and are exploring the various options with our partners.

Is SpatialDev an ESRI solution provider or do you focus on Open Source solutions?

Yes and Yes. We are a technology agnostic system integrater. We try not to get hung up on what 'Geo Stack' is best or what is most popular or what has the flashiest web page. We work with both popular and obscure geospatial technology. We like to integrate stacks and build the middle pieces which allow systems to talk. We build out traditional systems but are not afraid to try new approaches and test out new models.

What's the "International" all about?

SpatialDev is spending significant time in Africa working to bring updated geospatial technology and information to rural farmers. We believe that a market based approach can work in Africa to bring ICT solutions in some of the world's most challenging locations. We are committed to work in Afirca and other emerging economies through the world. Over the next several years we will be expanding in Africa and other developing economies as market conditions permit.

Where are you guys located?

Our headquarters is based in Seattle, Washington USA, but our team's reach is worldwide. In early 2010 SpatialDev will be opening a branch in Nairobi, Kenya.
